How to Choose Furniture and Doors for a Dark Floor in the Living Room?

Dark Floor in the Living Room and Furniture

It is often advised to pair a dark floor with light walls and accessories. This way, the room won’t feel too overwhelming and will instead create a very stylish atmosphere. Depending on the effect you want to achieve, there are many different options to choose from.

One of the most popular combinations is pairing white walls with a dark floor. The furniture used can be, for example, glass, if you're aiming for a modern style, or made of wood in a shade similar to the floor, for a more traditional look. It is essential to keep the walls visible. Minimalistic shelves, which lack a back wall, are perfect in such cases.

Sofa – it is also important that the sofa is light. Beige fabrics, for example, are recommended. The same goes for armchairs. They don’t necessarily have to be made from single-colored fabrics. Those who want a unique style often choose patterned fabrics. Remember, a dark sofa can be visually lightened with a simple trick, like throwing a light blanket and cushions on it.

What Doors to Choose for a Dark Floor

There is no single rule to follow, but it is important to be consistent when decorating a room. In a traditional style, choosing doors and flooring based on similarity works well. For example, if the dark floor in the living room is oak with its beautiful and unique grain, it would be important for the doors to also be wooden and in a similar shade (preferably oak as well).

For those who are not afraid of bold decisions in interior design and enjoy using unusual and innovative solutions, choosing doors for a dark floor based on contrast is an option. In this case, you might choose light-colored doors, such as white, and often pair them with white baseboards. It is much easier to choose dark doors for a light floor, and it’s more challenging to create an attractive composition based on a dark floor. For many, it will look better if we opt for wooden or wood-based doors, such as white doors with white walls.
