It’s important to note, however, that the subfloor must be perfectly level, clean, dry, and properly prepared — often requiring a screed and priming. However, gluing is sometimes used, but in such cases, all requirements outlined in both the flooring and adhesive warranty cards must be met. As with vinyl flooring glued to the subfloor, laminate panels can also be installed by gluing them down. Apart from the cases mentioned above (eliminating expansion joints between rooms, large surface areas), another increasingly common application is using laminate panels for stairs — where gluing is necessary. Whether using click or glued laminate panels, they should always be installed on a clean, even, stable, and dry surface, maintaining expansion gaps of about 10 mm around walls.
Floating installation – why it’s worth it
Modern laminate and vinyl panels were designed for installation without glue. They allow for quick, durable, and hassle-free installation and removal, which contributes to the floor’s longevity. Floating installation — that is, without glue — ensures that the floor’s natural “floating” mechanism remains undisturbed, as long as proper expansion gaps and other installation rules are followed. As a result, the floor remains in excellent condition for many years.
