Children’s room designs – what flooring to choose for a kid’s room?

Carpet flooring in a children's room

One of the most frequently chosen options, mainly due to the softness of carpet flooring, which allows children to play freely on the floor and walk barefoot without the risk of catching a cold. The carpet must therefore be soft and warm, but it does have its drawbacks. One of the biggest challenges for busy parents is the difficulty in daily maintenance and removing stains. It definitely is not a choice that will please us for many years, especially if we choose a light-colored carpet. When designing a children's room, it's important to consider that the floor is highly exposed to dirt: stains from drinks, colorful paints, and sweets (e.g., chocolate). Carpets require not only regular vacuuming but also periodic washing.

Children's room design and natural wood flooring

Natural wood flooring is recommended for its safety and eco-friendliness. It works particularly well in rooms of children with allergies – it is easy and quick to achieve perfect floor cleanliness. Wood floors provide good acoustic and thermal insulation, muffling noise and keeping feet warm. The downside is mainly the cost (purchase, installation, and subfloor preparation), which combined with lower scratch resistance may make natural wood flooring uneconomical for a children’s room.

Laminate panels in a children's room

Compared to other options, laminate panels are the most commonly chosen flooring in children's rooms. They are valued for their high abrasion resistance, ensuring that no playtime will threaten the floor’s aesthetics. The floor will remain as beautiful as on the day of purchase for a long time. Laminate patterns also allow creating cozy, warm, and bright interiors. Light-colored laminate panels are not problematic, unlike carpets, because spilled juice can be wiped up quickly and chocolate stains can be cleaned within moments. An example is the warm and timeless Canadian Oak from the De Lux collection. It will not only withstand the wear and tear of childhood thanks to its high AC6 abrasion class but will also allow creating a new room design for a teenager. The natural look of the decor matches many wall and furniture colors. An ideal combination is laminate flooring with small certified rugs. This is not only a trendy solution but also practical – the little one gains a comfortable play area, and we have the option to wash the rug if needed.
